Con questo Blood Year, la band di base a Chicago, Illinois, arriva al suo settimo lavoro in studio, con un suono sempre più arrabbiato e massiccio, conservando la sua peculiarità di tracce esclusivamente strumentali. Come saprà chiunque faccia musica, ma pure chi la ascolta cercando qualcosa di più, rispetto al pop e alle facili melodie, riuscire a mantenere alta l'attenzione con presupposti come questi (senza il canto, di qualsiasi tipo esso sia), non è per niente facile. Certo, ci sono fulgidi esempi, e non possiamo esimerci, almeno quando si parla di post rock, di citare gli immarcescibili Mogwai, e, sempre per chi fa o ha fatto musica, ascoltare dischi come questo Blood Year, farà venire in mente lunghe session in sala prove senza il cantante, ma bisogna ammettere che i tre bravissimi musicisti che compongono i Russian Circles, possono essere iscritti di diritto nella schiera di chi riesce a trasmettere emozioni anche così. Batteria che non si limita a tenere il tempo, basso che disegna sottotraccia linee dure ma eleganti, chitarre che raccontano fughe e viaggi. Nonostante ci sia un mare di musica, in questi tempi moderni, c'è senz'altro posto per i Russian Circles, ed il loro nuovo, coinvolgente disco.
With this Blood Year, the Chicago, Illinois, based band, arrives at its seventh studio work, with an increasingly angry and massive sound, preserving its peculiarity of purely instrumental tracks. As anyone who does music will know, but also those who listen to it looking for something more, with respect to pop and easy melodies, being able to maintain high attention with parameters such as these (without singing, of whatever type it is), is not for nothing easy. Sure, there are shining examples, and we can't avoid, at least when it comes to post-rock, to mention the incorruptibles Mogwai, and, again for those who make or have made music, listen to records like this Blood Year, it will bring to mind long sessions in the rehearsal room without the singer, but it must be admitted that the three talented musicians who compose the Russian Circles, can be enrolled by right in the ranks of those who manage to convey emotions even so. A drumming that does not just keep time, a bass guitar that draws under the surface hard but elegant lines, guitars that tell about escapes and journeys. Although there is a sea of music, in these modern times, there is certainly room for the Russian Circles, and their new, engaging record.
