Oggi parliamo del nono album di quella che è, probabilmente, la band tutta femminile più longeva della storia della musica rock. C'è da premettere che non sono mai stato un fan in passato, e quindi non starò a raccontarvi aneddoti, o a fare paragoni. Quello che c'è da sottolineare è che l'album è prodotto nientemeno che da St. Vincent, e che purtroppo, la batterista Janet Weiss ha lasciato la band immediatamente dopo l'uscita del disco (c'è che dice perché non era d'accordo con la direzione musicale intrapresa). Il disco suona molto onesto, con reminiscenze punk e new wave, e una grande dose di alt rock mischiato a volte con un poco di elettronica, con testi encomiabili e diretti, la voce di Carrie Brownstein è emozionata ed emozionante, le melodie sghembe ma spesso toccanti, la grinta c'è, così come la maturità di essere donne ultra-quarantenni in un mondo ancora molto misogino.
Today we talk about the ninth album of what is probably the longest-lived all-female band in the history of rock music. What needs to be emphasized is that the album is produced by none other than St. Vincent, and that unfortunately, the drummer Janet Weiss left the band immediately after the release of the album (it seems because she was not agree with the musical direction undertaken). The record sounds very honest, with punk and new wave reminiscences, and a great dose of alt rock mixed, sometimes, with electronic, with praiseworthy and direct lyrics, Carrie Brownstein's voice is emotional and moving, the oblique but often touching melodies, the grit is there, as is the maturity to be women over forty in a world that is still very misogynistic.
