Hammer of the Witches - Cradle of Filth (2015)
The British band, which always revolves around the figure of the leader Dani Filth, the only survivor of the original line-up, have changed directions, and of course, has incorporated new influences, as well as everyone else, to survive and not be always equal to themselves. Of course, to my ears, probably unfamiliar with this symphonic black metal style, they do not sound so different from those of Nymphetamine in 2004, but it is certainly my problem.
The Cradle of Filth, anyway, remain faithful, in the construction of sonic carpets, and in the harmonicity of the guitars solos, to the Iron Maiden style, they are inspired, of course, the top of the genre, like Slayer and Venom, modernizing them, all of this is intersected with orchestral symphonies classically inspired, extremes the rhythms of the songs until the climax, and are inspired by obscure mythology for the lyrics. It's true that some glimpses of their pieces are also enjoyable, as for the melodic part, the rifferama is more than welcome in terms of metal style, and there are often excellent solos, but the singing style of Dani to me, still seems to be a little grotesque. As well as her make-up for the stage, which is a cross between those of King Diamond and Gene Simmons.
No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

L’esistenza è futile
Existence is Futile - Cradle of Filth (2021)
Thirteenth album for Dani Filth's band, the first with the new entry Anabelle Iratni on keyboards and vocals, of course the female one (she also plays the lyre). I went to reread the only review I had submitted to you, that of the eleventh album Hammer of the Witches in 2015, and, since I had spoken rather badly (even in general, of the band), it made me think: it is evident that, unlike many, the older I get, the more my musical tastes change, opening up to extreme genres with a certain pleasure. I tell you this because this Existence is Futile I do not mind at all, starting from the cover, by the Latvian artist Arthur Berzinsh, already with them in the two previous albums, and clearly inspired by my favorite painter, Hieronymus Bosch. Over time, I learned to appreciate even the symphonic part, the one that was difficult for me to digest until a few years ago, and Dani's somewhat theatrical approach to singing. More and more, at least this is my impression, the music of Cradle of Filth is made up of many shades, the love for classic heavy metal, as well as for the subgenres that have derived from it, that for the horror films of many years ago, for all that is gothic and dark, and, in fact, for the theatricality of a genre that has always be close to it.

Una vista dal tetto del mondo
A View from the Top of the World - Dream Theater (2021)
With an impressive regularity (there are always two, at most three years, between one album and another), reminiscent of their music after all, comes the fifteenth studio album for the American band, formed in 1985 by musicians all from the New York area, but that were studying at Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts; the line-up changes have led them to have a Canadian singer, James LaBrie, since 1991. What I think in general of Dream Theater, I told you with my comments on the previous Distance Over Time, and despite, as I told you just yesterday during the comment on the new Cradle of Filth record, my musical tastes have changed with age, when I listen to a record of these progressive metal champions, I can't help but twist my mouth. I can't see great originality, behind the immense instrumental technique, and despite the fact that their career started shortly after that of Queensryche, Dream Theater have not been able to impose their personality to the end, so much so as to create a brand. The record, yet another, is not bad, and some moments are great, with echoes of Rush and even Foreigner, but as I already said, after the usual listening to be able to argue this comment, for sure I will not hear the urgent need to listen to it again.

L'urlo delle Valchirie
The Screaming of the Valkyries - Cradle of Filth (2025)
Fourteenth album for Dani Filth's band, nothing new under the sun but, as always, a nothing new done well, with all the trappings of the genre. As often happens, the album marks some changes in the lineup: it is the first album with new members Donny Burbage on guitar and Zoe Marie Federoff on keyboards and female vocals.
