Il 24 aprile 2001 usciva The Unraveling, il primo disco dei Rise Against, band punk rock militante di Chicago, Illinois. L'album non fu un gran successo di vendite, neppure nella re-issue del 2005, due membri lasciarono la band poco dopo, ma la band ha definito un percorso, ed ha continuato per la sua strada, raggiungendo successo di critica e pubblico, e pubblicando altri sei album, fino a The Black Market, per ora il loro ultimo, nel 2014.
Il loro stile si andava definendo, ma non è cambiato molto, si è giusto migliorato anche tecnicamente. Elementi di hardcore punk edulcorati permangono tutt'ora, le melodie già erano buone a quei tempi, e quindi il disco rappresenta un buon punto di partenza, contenendo ottimi pezzi. Le liriche parlano di relazioni, amicizie, religione e ricordi, i riferimenti politici sarebbero venuti in seguito, mettendo anche in musica l'attivismo dei membri della band. Curiosità: ci sono un paio di riferimenti cinematografici. Proprio all'inizio del disco, prima di Alive and Well, c'è la voce di Jack Black in un momento di The Cable Guy (Il rompiscatole), mentre prima di Reception Fades c'è un monologo tratto da Henry Fool.
On April 24, 2001, came out "The Unraveling", the first album of Rise Against, punk rock band activist from Chicago, Illinois. The album was not a big sales success, even in the re-issue of 2005, two members left the band shortly after, but the band has defined a path, and continued on its way, achieving success with critics and audiences, and releasing six more albums, up to "The Black Market", for now their last, in 2014.
Their style was in definition, but has not changed much, it is also improved technically. Elements of hardcore punk sweetened remain still, the melodies were already good in those days, then this album was a good place to start, containing excellent pieces. The lyrics speak of relationships, friendships, religion and memories, the political references would come later, even putting in music the activism of the band members. Trivia: there are a couple of references to movies. Right at the beginning of the disc, before "Alive and Well", there is the voice of Jack Black in a moment of "The Cable Guy", while before "Reception Fades" there is a sudden monologue from "Henry Fool".
