No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

Dormi bene bestia

Sleep Well Beast - The National (2017)

Magari.

My "relationship" with the band from Cincinnati, Ohio, has always been conflictual. In 2007 I put their "Boxer" in the top ten of the worst record of the year. In 2010 I spoke discreetly about their "High Violet". Having completely dodged the previous "Trouble Will Find Me" (2013), I found myself listening to this new "Sleep Well Beast", prompted by a couple of reviews very enthusiastic, and I found incredibly exaggerated these reviews that defined it as the record of the year (what had happened in the past for some of their other works), and the disc in its entirety was not very thick.
Let's be clear: I have nothing against them, and I understand they are good and they can also have their charm, it's just that I find it really exaggerated to exalt them because, even though their kind of music (Indie? Post? Art?) is not exactly what I prefer, there are bands that I can enjoy and even exalt me, or touch my heart. I recognize, and I have already done, that they know how to write good songs, that Berninger's voice has its meaning to exist, and that they often manage to get rid of that being a bit of Editors, a bit of Interpol, a bit (very few) of Cohen, a bit of Wilco, drawing pleasant pages (songs); but they have not been able to touch me deeply. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe.

Condivido tutto.
