Sesto disco in studio per la band di Chicago (ma i componenti adesso sono divisi tra la capitale dell'Illinois e Los Angeles), una band post-metal che, come sa bene chi li conosce, ha da sempre fatto esclusivamente brani strumentali. Ascoltare un disco dei Pelican, e questo non fa eccezione, è un po' come sedersi nella sala prove dei tuoi amici musicisti, sapendo che sanno suonare, ed ascoltarli improvvisare. La differenza è che i Pelican non improvvisano affatto, e riescono invece, a mettere in musica sensazioni ed emozioni, anche senza l'uso della parola cantata. Il risultato, per chi sa apprezzarlo, è sempre di grande effetto. Suoni ruvidissimi, davvero da sala prove.
Sixth studio album for the Chicago band (but the members are now divided between the capital of Illinois and Los Angeles), a post-metal band that, as anyone who knows them, has always made exclusively instrumental tracks. Listening to a Pelican record, and this is no exception, is a bit like sitting in the rehearsal room of your musician friends, knowing that they know how to play, and listen to them improvise. The difference is that the Pelican do not improvise at all, and instead manage to put into music sensations and emotions, even without the use of the word sung. The result, for those who know how to appreciate it, is always impressive. Very rough sounds, really like in a rehearsal room.
