So che comincio sempre più spesso le mie recensioni (sempre che si possano definire tali) nella stessa maniera, ma devo essere prima di tutto onesto, perché spesso i giudizi possono essere sensibilmente guidati, quando si conosce l'intera carriera di una band, per quanto si provi ad essere equilibrati. E quindi, anche stavolta rivelerò che non avevo mai ascoltato, prima d'ora, i Twenty One Pilots, duo di Columbus, Ohio. E non sapevo assolutamente cosa aspettarmi, visto che non avevo neppure mai letto niente che mi potesse dare un'indicazione, un'idea anche solo approssimativa del genere da loro praticato. Genere che rimane indefinibile anche dopo diversi ascolti di questo loro quinto album. Certo, l'influenza prominente è l'hip hop, ma tenete conto che i componenti, Tyler Joseph (voce, tastiere, chitarre) e Josh Dun (batteria, tromba), sono entrambi bianchi. Non vorrebbe dire granché; il fatto è che dentro alla loro musica c'è di tutto, dal rock al reggae, dall'elettronica al punk, e che, nonostante entrambi siano fondamentalmente autodidatti musicalmente, il disco, che qualche fan definisce il loro più pop, è geniale nel suo minimalismo. E' un concept album, basato su una realtà distopica creata da Joseph, e attraverso storie legate a questo mondo immaginario, i testi esplorano l'insicurezza, la fede, il suicidio e la salute mentale. Dategli un ascolto, potrebbe coinvolgervi.

It is a concept album, based on a dystopian reality created by Joseph, and through stories related to this imaginary world, the lyrics explore insecurity, faith, suicide and mental health. Give it a listen, it could involve you.
