Se per caso avete visto la serie tv tedesca (ma diffusa da Netflix) Dark, e vi siete chiesti come mai la musica, anche quella originale, fosse così bella (come ho fatto io), ecco spiegato il perché: era composta da Anja Franziska Plaschg, aka Soap&Skin. Finalmente, a distanza di ben sei anni dal precedente Narrow, composto anche sugli strascichi dell'elaborazione del lutto per la scomparsa del padre e della sua seguente depressione (è stata anche ospedalizzata), disco che a sua volta seguiva il debutto del 2009 Lovetune for Vacuum che le aveva regalato una certa notorietà (notorietà che la giovane rifuggiva), ecco il nuovo lavoro della ormai 28enne austriaca di Poppendorf. Un disco sul quale la critica ha già avuto modo di dire tutto e il contrario di tutto: eccezionale conferma e tremendo passo falso. Il mio giudizio ve lo spiego così: ascoltato la prima volta il disco e saputo di una sua prossima data italiana, ho acquistato il biglietto appena aperte le prevendite. From Gas to Solid / You Are My Friend è un disco perfettibile, per gli standard ed il talento purissimo di Anja, ma nonostante ciò, sicuramente uno dei dischi più belli del 2018 (e questo lo abbiamo già appurato qui). Composizioni bellissime, guidate soprattutto dal pianoforte e coronate dalla splendida voce della Plaschg, che scorrazzano tra influenze classiche e pop di altissimo livello, con passaggi da brividi intensi; il mood è, lo hanno notato in molti, più solare rispetto a Narrow, tanto che la ragazza si permette perfino di chiudere il disco con una cover alla sua maniera di un simbolo come What a Wonderful World (Thiele/Weiss) di Louis Armstrong, senza sfigurare per niente. Eppure, è impossibile non definirla musica sperimentale: e se siete pronti ad ascoltarla, capirete perché. E non ve ne pentirete. Diverso e meraviglioso.

From Gas to Solid / You Are My Friend, is a perfectible record, for the standards and the pure talent of Anja, but nevertheless, certainly one of the most beautiful records of 2018 (and we have already verified it here). Beautiful compositions, mainly driven by the piano and crowned by the wonderful voice of Plaschg, which roam between classical and pop influences of the highest level, with intense shivering passages; the mood is, they have noticed in many, more sunny than Narrow, so that the girl even allows herself to close the record with a cover in its way of a symbol like What a Wonderful World (Thiele / Weiss) by Louis Armstrong, without disfiguring at all. And yet, it is impossible not to define experimental music: if you are ready to listen to her, you will understand why. And you will not regret it. Different and wonderful.
