Knowing What You Know Now - Marmozets (2018)

A volte i geni (nel senso di DNA) fanno strani scherzi. Prendete quello dei Marmozets. La band di Bingley, West Yorkshire, Inghilterra, è formata da due gruppi di fratelli. Rebecca Becca Macintyre voce, Sam Mcintyre voce e chitarra, Josh Macintyre batteria, più Jack Bottomley chitarra e Will Bottomley basso e voce. Mettono insieme la band nel 2007, giovanissimi e ancora a scuola, pubblicano una manciata di EP tra il 2009 e il 2014, il loro album di debutto nel 2014, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, e questo loro secondo Knowing What You Know Now è una delle cose più semplici ed al tempo stesso eccitanti e dirette che mi sia capitato di ascoltare l'anno scorso. Dodici pezzi uno più bello dell'altro, per 45 minuti di musica rock e ottima composizione, guidati da una voce ultra-versatile (ascoltare Major System Error per farsi un'idea). Reminiscenze di hardcore e di una certa attitudine punk, che probabilmente i ragazzi non hanno neppure conosciuto, ma soprattutto, un approccio aggressivo con canzoni scritte come se i cinque avessero un'esperienza trentennale di songwriting. Da non perdere.



Sometimes genes (in the sense of DNA) make strange jokes. Take that of the Marmozets. The band from Bingley, West Yorkshire, England, is made up of two groups of brothers. Rebecca Becca Macintyre, vocals, Sam Mcintyre, vocals and guitar, Josh Macintyre, drums, plus Jack Bottomley, guitar and Will Bottomley, bass and vocals. They put together in 2007, they released a bunch of EPs between 2009 and 2014, their debut album in 2014, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, and this, their second Knowing What You Know Now is one of the simplest and the same time exciting and direct things I've been listen in 2018. 12 tracks, one better than the other, for 45 minutes of rock music and excellent composition, led by an ultra-versatile voice. A reminiscence of a punk attitude, of which, probably, the guys did not even know anything, but most of all a songwriting as they would have a thirty year experience doing that. Not to be missed.
