Quarto disco in quindici anni per la band di Providence, Rhode Island (ma si sono sciolti nel 2009 e poi riformati nel 2014 circa), proveniente da radici gindcore, ma convertitisi al noise rock: non per niente, questo disco del 2018 è uscito per la Ipecac di Greg Werckman e Mike Patton. La musica dei Daughters, così come le loro liriche, somigliano un po' ad un flusso di coscienza. Semplice ma asimmetrica, incessante, senza tregua, spesso asfissiante, con la voce di Alexis Marshall che qualcuno avvicina a quella di Nick Cave, ma non per quanto riguarda il timbro, quanto per l'intensità e, forse, per il modo di raccontare storie che oserei definire impressioniste. Schizzi, bozzetti di vita, incastrati sopra un tappeto di hardcore secco e più elettronico che distorto. A tratti disperato. Disco stranissimo, e per questo molto interessante.
Fourth album in fifteen years for the band of Providence, Rhode Island (but they disbanded in 2009 and then reformed in about 2014), coming from gindcore roots, but converted to noise rock: not for nothing, this album of 2018 was released by the Ipecac, owned by Greg Werckman and Mike Patton. The music of the Daughters, like their lyrics, is a bit like a stream of consciousness. Simple but asymmetrical, incessant, relentless, often suffocating, with the voice of Alexis Marshall that someone approaches that of Nick Cave, but not with regards to timbre, but for intensity and, perhaps, for the way stories are told that I would dare to call impressionist. Sketches, pieces of life, stuck on a carpet of dry hardcore and more electronic than distorted. Desperate at times. Very strange record, and therefore very interesting.
