Leggendo le notizie sui recenti Grammy Awards, mi sono reso conto che l'unica artista premiata della quale non sapevo niente era Kacey Lee Musgraves, 30 anni, di Mineola, Texas, al suo quarto disco. Quindi, mi sono dato da fare per recuperare. Musgraves, bellissima ragazza, è quello che si può definire un classico prodotto statunitense, ma se si approfondisce, ci si convince che potrebbe essere una persona che incontra le nostre simpatie. Ha cominciato prestissimo a suonare chitarra e mandolino, a scrivere canzoni, ha fatto la sua gavetta, ha affinato il songwriting, suona un country pop apparentemente poco offensivo, una sorta di Taylor Swift dei primi tempi con un timbro vocale che mi ha ricordato (forse anche perché mi manca moltissimo) Nina Persson dei Cardigans, ma negli USA è rispettata per i suoi testi che esulano un po' da quelli che ci si aspetterebbe da questo tipo di musica. Diritti LGBT (tra l'altro, prima di sposarsi con Ruston Kelly, cantante/musicista country, ha dichiarato di aver avuto una relazione di qualche anno con la sua compagna di band Misa Arriaga), rapporti sessuali sicuri, uso di marijuana ricreativo, messa in dubbio dei sentimenti religiosi. Niente male.
Disco impeccabile, seppur prevedibile, voce delicatissima.
Reading the news on the recent Grammy Awards, I realized that the only winning artist I knew nothing about was Kacey Lee Musgraves, 30, from Mineola, Texas, here on her fourth album. So, I worked hard to recover. Musgraves, a very beautiful girl, is what can be defined as a classic American product, but if it gets deeper, you can convince yourself that it could be a person who meets our likes. She started playing guitar and mandolin early, writing songs, she made her apprenticeship, she refined the songwriting, she plays an apparently little offensive country pop, a sort of Taylor Swift of the early times with a vocal timbre that reminded me (maybe also because I miss her very much) Nina Persson of The Cardigans, but in the USA she is respected for her lyrics that go a little beyond those that one would expect from this type of music. LGBT rights (among other things, before marrying Ruston Kelly, a male country singer/musician, said she had a few years relationship with her bandmate Misa Arriaga), safe sex, use of recreational marijuana, questioning religious sentiment. Not bad. Impeccable record, albeit predictable, very delicate voice.
