Debbo confessarvi, chi mi conosce lo immaginerà già, che ho dovuto vincere la mia viscerale antipatia verso Conor Oberst, uno dei due componenti di questo progetto, per riuscire a dare un giudizio spero equilibrato su questo disco, uscito agli inizi del 2019. Al tempo stesso, pur non essendo ancora riuscito ad ascoltare il suo debutto Stranger in the Alps, mi è bastato sentirla nel gustosissimo progetto Boygenius, per innamorarmi di Phoebe Bridgers, l'altra metà di questi Better Oblivion Community Center, nome simpatico e curioso, e probabilmente questo ha rischiato di far pendere la bilancia troppo a favore. Ma, c'è veramente poco da bilanciare: questo disco eponimo di indie folk rock è meraviglioso, anche se c'è da sopportare la voce di Oberst. Canzoni scritte divinamente, voci che si intrecciano benissimo, e dolcezza quasi da diabete. Soffice come gommapiuma, bellissimo.
I must confess to you, those who know me will imagine it already, that I had to overcome my visceral antipathy towards Conor Oberst, one of the two components of this project, to be able to give a judgment I hope balanced on this record, released at the beginning of 2019. At the same time, although I am not yet able to hear her debut Stranger in the Alps, it was enough to hear her in the very tasty Boygenius project, to fall in love with Phoebe Bridgers, the other half of these Better Oblivion Community Centers, a funny and curious name, and probably this threatened to tip the balance too much. But, there is very little to balance: this eponymous record of indie folk rock is wonderful, even if we have to put up with the voice of Oberst. Divinely written songs, voices that intertwine very well, and almost diabetes-like sweetness. Soft like foam rubber, beautiful.
