Furore è la prima parola che mi viene in mente quando ascolto il nuovo, secondo album dei Frail Body, al loro secondo album dopo l'ottimo debutto del 2019 A Brief Memoriam. La band è assolutamente underground, non si trovano molte notizie su di loro on line, e infatti, come mi accorsi in colpevole ritardo del loro debutto, anche stavolta, se non fosse per i miei punti di riferimento del passaparola, mi sarei perso o accorto tardi di Artificial Bouquet. Un amico sostiene che questo è già il disco dell'anno: non è da escludere. I ragazzi, basati a Rockford, Illinois, hanno affinato quello che sul loro stesso sito viene definito screamo. Un disco al tempo stesso estremamente aggressivo e altamente emozionante. Il basso di Nic Kuczynski è qualcosa di incredibile, ed è senza dubbio la cosa che più mi colpisce dopo parecchi ascolti, seppure la batteria incessante di Nicholas Clemenson e gli intrecci tra la chitarra e le linee melodiche vocali (alternate a quelle urlate) di Lowell Shaffer (che si occupa anche delle sparute parti di piano) contribuiscano moltissimo alla riuscita del tutto. Ci troverete momenti nei quali la musica ricorda una slavina che travolge tutto, insieme ad altri nei quali, da un terremoto sonoro, emergono melodie bellissime e strazianti. Chi se li perde non saprà mai cosa si è perso.
Fury is the first word that comes to mind when I listen to the new, second album by Frail Body, their second album after the excellent 2019 debut A Brief Memoriam. The band is absolutely underground, there isn't much information about them online, and in fact, as I realized, guiltly later, of their debut, this time too, if it weren't for my word-of-mouth reference points, I would have gotten lost or noticed late of Artificial Bouquet. A friend claims that this is already the album of the year: it cannot be ruled out. The guys, based in Rockford, Illinois, have honed what their website calls screamo. A record that is both extremely aggressive and highly emotional. Nic Kuczynski's bass is something incredible, and is undoubtedly the thing that strikes me most after several listens, despite Nicholas Clemenson's incessant drums and the interweavings between the guitar and Lowell Shaffer (who also takes care of the sparse piano parts) vocal melodic lines (alternating with shouted ones) contribute greatly to the success of the whole. You will find moments in which the music recalls an avalanche that overwhelms everything, along with others in which, from a sonic earthquake, beautiful and heartbreaking melodies emerge. Anyone who misses them will never know what they missed.
