Mommy - Be Your Own Pet (2023)
Una storia attualissima, quella della band di Nashville, Tennessee, formata nel 2004, autrice di due dischi molto semplici ma molto interessanti, che mi piacquero molto, Be Your Own Pet del 2006 e Get Awkward del 2008. Nello stesso 2008 si sciolsero, citando come motivazioni sessismo e misoginia rivolti alla cantante Jemina Pearl, e un generale esaurimento nervoso dovuto alle molte pressioni da parte dell'industria musicale. Si riformano l'anno scorso, su precisa richiesta di Jack White, che li ha voluti per aprire i concerti del suo tour 2022/2023. Ovviamente, adesso tornano anche con un disco, il loro terzo in diciannove anni. Un disco piacevolissimo, garage rock con grandi ganci, una voce (quella di Jemina) ancora validissima e naturalmente più matura, e liriche non banali, perfino graffianti.
A very current story, that of the band from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2004, author of two very simple but very interesting records, which I liked a lot, Be Your Own Pet in 2006 and Get Awkward in 2008. In the same 2008 they disbanded, citing as motivations sexism and misogyny aimed at the singer Jemina Pearl, and a general nervous breakdown due to the many pressures from the music industry. They reformed last year, at the specific request of Jack White, who wanted them to open the concerts of his 2022/2023 tour. Obviously, now they also return with a record, their third in nineteen years. A very pleasant album, garage rock with great hooks, a voice (Jemina's) that is still very valid and naturally more mature, and non-trivial, even biting lyrics.
