Ohms - Deftones (2020)

A tratti allucinante.

The Deftones are alive, more alive than ever, despite the 32 years of life, and the vicissitudes they have gone through. The ninth album, released on September 25, 2020, announced by a wonderful single, accompanied by a poignant video and an at least curious social campaign, is very beautiful. Of course, if you have listened to Ohms, the title track but also the single released before the album, a track that you cannot fail to like (it is beautiful, there is nothing to do and I do not accept objections), at first listening you will find yourself complaining the fact that the other tracks are not at that height. It is true, but it is also a "parallax" error (one of the few things I learned in school, and that I like to brush up every now and then): so much beauty blinds the listener. Resume listening from the beginning, maybe with headphones, turn up the volume, and start following Stephen Carpenter's guitar work, in better shape than ever. At times hallucinating. The album will grow with the listenings, you will find many other fascinating tracks, always in a style that is now known, theirs, but unlike the previous albums, much more focused, starting from the opening of Genesis onwards. So, as said at the beginning, the band from Sacramento, California is more alive than ever, and it's a pleasure to know.
