Ghost at the Gallows - Spirit Adrift (2023)

Della band formatasi a Mesa, Arizona, e adesso di base ad Austin, Texas, che in realtà è ancora, ufficialmente, una band composta solo da Nate Garrett, che via via si circonda di ottimi musicisti per suonare dal vivo, vi ho parlato già in un paio di occasioni. Questo loro quinto album arriva nella penuria delle uscite agostane un po' come acqua nel deserto: come espresso più e più volte, sono attento a cose nuove e particolari, cerco di diversificarmi, ma nel profondo rimango sempre un metallaro. Ghost at the Gallows, che al solito si avvale delle liriche un po' oscure e sicuramente affascinate dalla morte (sempre ad opera di Garrett), è un compendio di heavy metal classico rivisitato. Dallo speed metal ad influenze che ricordano il miglior Ozzy Osbourne, dalle obbligatorie influenze della New Wave of British Heavy Metal ad echi che richiamano nemmeno troppo vagamente i Mastodon, il disco soddisfa e diverte. 

Of the band formed in Mesa, Arizona, and now based in Austin, Texas, which in reality is still, officially, a band composed only by Nate Garrett, who gradually surrounds himself with excellent musicians to play live, I have already told you on a couple of occasions. This fifth album of theirs arrives in the lack of August releases a bit like water in the desert: as expressed over and over again, I am attentive to new and particular things, I try to diversify myself, but deep down I always remain a metalhead. Ghost at the Gallows, which usually makes use of the somewhat obscure lyrics and certainly fascinated by death (again by Garrett), is a compendium of classic heavy metal revisited. From speed metal to influences that recall the best Ozzy Osbourne, from the obligatory influences of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal to echoes that, not too vaguely, recall the Mastodon, the record satisfies and entertains.
