Mutants - Mutoid Man (2023)

Terzo album per la band formatasi a Brooklyn, New York City, composta oggi, oltre ai fondatori Stephen Brodsky (chitarra e voce) e Ben Koller (batteria), dal "nuovo" ingresso Jeff Matz al basso. Come saprete, se vi interessate anche parzialmente al metal, la caratteristica dei componenti è che sono tutti parte integrante di altre band, spesso più di una: inutile star qui a farvi l'elenco. Se inoltre, digitate "mutoid man" sulla homepage del blog e fate una ricerca, troverete traccia dei loro precedenti due album, nonché un paio di recensioni live. Tutto questo per dire, prima di tutto, che continuo a pensare a questa band come un passatempo per i componenti, e invece non è proprio così. In seconda battuta, vorrei convincervi che, nonostante il fatto che il trio abbia molti altri impegni, lo stile dei Mutoid Man è davvero unico e particolare. Se provate a leggere le etichette, ad esempio, che sono loro accostate, sulla scheda Wikipedia, ci sono almeno sei generi musicali. Mutants è, per l'ennesima volta, un disco prima di tutto divertente (per dirne una, fin dal primo ascolto, quando sento Graveyard Love penso immediatamente ai Van Halen, e precisamente alla loro Hot for Teacher), e poi variegato, intenso, pesante, mai banale, schizzato, mai noioso. Sarà pure un divertissement, questa band, ma che classe!

Third album for the band formed in Brooklyn, New York City, composed today, in addition to founders Stephen Brodsky (guitar and vocals) and Ben Koller (drums), by (relatively) new entry Jeff Matz on bass. As you know, if you are even partially interested in metal, the characteristic of the members is that they are all an integral part of other bands, often more than one: it is useless to stay here and make a list. Also, if you type "mutoid man" on the blog's homepage and do a search, you'll find traces of their previous two albums, as well as a couple of live reviews. All this to say, first of all, that I still think of this band as a pastime for the members, but that's not really the case. Secondly, I would like to convince you that, despite the fact that the trio has many other commitments, Mutoid Man's style is truly unique and particular. If you try to read the labels, for example, which are juxtaposed with them, on the Wikipedia file, there are at least six musical genres. Mutants is, for the umpteenth time, an album first of all fun (for one thing, from the very first listening, when I hear Graveyard Love I immediately think of Van Halen, and precisely their Hot for Teacher), and then variegated, intense, heavy, never dull, schizoid, never boring. It will also be a divertissement, this band, but what a class!
