Spaceman - Ace Frehley (2018)

Dovreste conoscermi davvero bene, e da molto tempo, per sapere che Paul Daniel Frehley detto Ace, è uno dei musicisti rock più influenti ed importanti, per me. Senza il suo singolo New York Groove (una cover di Russ Ballard, inserita nel disco solista Ace Frehley del 1978, quando i Kiss, in cui militava, decisero di prendersi una pausa e far uscire quattro dischi solisti, uno ciascuno), probabilmente avrei seguito un percorso musicale del tutto diverso. O forse no, ma come che sia, amo questo chitarrista autodidatta, anche cantante, con uno stile unico e riconoscibilissimo, che ha influenzato molti chitarristi negli anni seguenti al suo successo con i Kiss. Questo Spaceman (il nome della persona da lui inventata per il suo ruolo, sempre con i Kiss) è il suo ottavo disco solista, ed è un disco di classic hard rock estremamente piacevole e ben fatto, dove ovviamente, si riconosce il suo marchio di fabbrica. Partecipazione straordinaria di Gene Simmons, che scrive insieme ad Ace due pezzi, Without You I'm Nothing e Your Wish Is My Command, e suona il basso sul primo, e, nella scaletta, anche una cover di I Wanna Go Back dei Billy Satellite. Per il resto, un manipolo di pezzi semplici, ma molto efficaci. E, naturalmente, un sacco di assoli-killer.



You should know me really well, and from a long time, to know that Paul Daniel Frehley, known as Ace, is one of the most influential and important rock musicians for me. Without his single New York Groove (a cover of Russ Ballard, inserted in the solo album Ace Frehley of 1978, when the Kiss, in which he played, decided to take a break and release four solo records, one each), I would probably have followed a completely different musical path. Or maybe not, but whatever it is, I love this self-taught guitarist, also a singer, with a unique and recognizable style that influenced many guitarists in the years following his success with Kiss. This Spaceman (the name of the persona he invented for his role, always with Kiss) is his eighth solo record, and is a very pleasant and well made classic hard rock album, where obviously, we can recognize his factory brand. Extraordinary participation of Gene Simmons, who writes with Ace two tracks, Without You I'm Nothing and Your Wish Is My Command, and plays the bass on the first one, and, in the set list, also a cover of I Wanna Go Back of Billy Satellite. For the rest, a handful of simple but very effective songs. And, of course, a bunch of killer guitar solos.
