Qui al sesto disco in studio e con 18 anni di anzianità, i norvegesi Leprous sono per me una assoluta novità. Ho cominciato ad interessarmene solo poche settimane fa, visto che erano in tour con i The Ocean (data italiana alla quale ho rinunciato per eccesso di impegni, purtroppo), e mi sono ascoltato questo nuovo Pitfall. Ora, si capisce, anche senza aver ascoltato niente delle loro produzioni precedenti, e leggendo varie note biografiche, che la band, trainata dai due fondatori Einar Solberg (voce, tastiere e gran parte delle composizioni e dei testi) e Tor Oddmund Suhrke (chitarre e alcuni testi), è decisa ad approfondire la propria capacità compositiva, che li porta ad essere autori di un progressive rock di grandissima caratura, senza essere palloso. La voce di Solberg (scopro da Wikipedia che è cognato di Ihsahn, del quale in passato gli stessi Leprous sono stati la backing band) è sontuosa, e permette al tutto di ottenere una maestosità che era una volta propria dei Queen, e che hanno raggiunto i migliori Muse, ma sorprendentemente, il disco non annoia, ma intriga. Una bella scoperta per me, un disco interessante per chi non si pone barriere di ascolto.
Here at the sixth studio album and with 18 years of seniority, the Norwegians Leprous are an absolute novelty for me. I started to take an interest in them only a few weeks ago, since they were on tour with The Ocean (Italian date to which I gave up due to excessive commitments, unfortunately), and I listened to this new Pitfalls. Now, of course, even without having listened to any of their previous productions, and reading various biographical notes, the band, driven by the two founders Einar Solberg (vocals, keyboards and most of the compositions and lyrics) and Tor Oddmund Suhrke (guitars and some lyrics), is determined to deepen her compositional ability, which leads them to be authors of a very high caliber progressive rock, without being dull. Solberg's voice (I find out from Wikipedia that he is Ihsahn's brother-in-law, of whom the Leprous themselves were the backing band in the past) is sumptuous, and allows the whole to obtain a majesty that was once proper to Queen, and that was achieved by the best Muse, but surprisingly, the record is not boring, but intriguing. A beautiful discovery for me, an interesting record for those who do not set themselves barriers to listening.
