Come sa chi li segue anche solo un poco, dopo un momento di titubanza, seguito alla morte del chitarrista fondatore e principale compositore, Tom Searle (fratello gemello di Dan, batterista), la band inglese, punta di diamante del movimento metalcore che proviene dalla Perfida Albione insieme agli amici Bring Me the Horizon, ha deciso di continuare. Subentrato Josh Middleton dai Sylosis alla chitarra solista (integratosi immediatamente come compositore principale nonché produttore, insieme a Dan; Dan è inoltre, l'autore di tutti i testi), e preceduto da tre singoli piuttosto incisivi (Hereafter, Royal Beggars e Modern Misery), all'inizio di Novembre è uscito quindi l'ottavo disco degli Architects, il primo quindi senza Tom. E' un disco che, a mio modesto parere, riesce a trasmettere già dalla musica, la sofferenza della perdita e il tentativo dell'elaborazione del lutto, costruito su una sorta di rabbia pilotata e trasformata in musica metal moderna. Chitarre dalla potenza inaudita, sezione ritmica martellante, uso ponderato e assolutamente redditizio di archi ed elettronica, e la, sempre per me, splendida voce di Sam Carter, veramente un maestro dello scream/harsh, capace anche di un cantato pulito suggestivo, anche se le vette più alte le tocca sempre con le melodie che riesce a raggiungere quando canta "sporco" (aiutato da ottime backing vocals). Le canzoni sono tutte validissime, undici pezzi senza alcun riempitivo, undici inni pronti ad essere cantati a squarciagola nel tour che è già cominciato, undici momenti di emozione regalati a loro stessi e ai fan. Ci sarà sempre chi si rifugerà nei classici "eh mai i dischi precedenti", ma come sapete, a me piace guardare avanti. Senza dubbio uno dei dischi dell'anno 2018.
As knows who follows them even just a little, after a period of hesitation, following the death of the founding guitarist and main composer, Tom Searle (twin brother of Dan, drummer), the English band, spearhead of the metalcore movement that comes from the UK, together with friends Bring Me the Horizon, has decided to continue. Substituted Josh Middleton from Sylosis to the lead guitar (immediately integrating as main composer and producer, along with Dan, Dan is also the author of all the lyrics), and preceded by three rather incisive singles (Hereafter, Royal Beggars and Modern Misery), at the beginning of November the eighth album by Architects was released, the first therefore without Tom. It is a record that, in my humble opinion, manages to transmit already from the music, the suffering of loss and the attempt of the elaboration of mourning, built on a sort of rage piloted and transformed into modern metal music. Guitars of sensational power, hammering rhythmic section, thoughtful and absolutely profitable use of strings and electronics, and the, still for me, wonderful voice of Sam Carter, really a master of the scream/harsh, also capable of a clean suggestive singing, even if the highest peaks he always touches with the melodies he manages to reach when he sings "dirty" (aided by excellent backing vocals). The songs are all very valid, eleven tracks without any fillers, eleven hymns ready to be sung loudly on the tour that has already begun, eleven moments of emotion given to themselves and to the fans. There will always be those who take refuge in the classic "eh, but the previous records you know", but as you know, I like to look forward. Without a doubt one of the records of the year 2018.
