Il settimo disco in studio della band di Maria Brink e Chris Howorth, è, se possibile, pure peggiore del precedente Ritual, del quale vi parlai piuttosto male. Sono d'accordo con quello che scrive Carlos Zelaya su Dead Press!: la metamorfosi della band dal metalcore degli albori ad un suono più radio-orientato è ormai completata, ma un disco del genere non attirerà loro nessun nuovo fan, seppure soddisferà i vecchi (qua ho qualche dubbio). La vena compositiva mi pare totalmente esaurita, la band continua a girare intorno ai soliti clichés, e lo fa talmente tanto che l'abitudine a proporre cover, su questo disco diventa imbarazzante. Ce ne sono ben tre: Fly Like an Eagle della Steve Miller Band, We Will Rock You dei Queen e Into Dust di Mazzy Star. La prima viene appiattita, diventando un anonimo pezzo stile In This Moment. La seconda, nonostante le partecipazioni di Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) e Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless), subisce lo stesso trattamento, e la cosa è sinceramente vergognosa: riuscire a rendere un pezzo del genere totalmente inutile, non è da tutti. La terza è onestamente il momento più alto del disco, seppure l'originale non sia avvicinabile: il fatto stesso che sia il meglio del disco è tutto dire. Da sottolineare Lay Me Down: praticamente un copia/incolla tra la stessa We Will Rock You e If I Had a Heart di Fever Ray. Mi domando se sia il caso di continuare su questa strada, per gli In This Moment.
The seventh studio album by the band of Maria Brink and Chris Howorth is, if possible, even worse than the previous Ritual, of which I spoke rather badly. I agree with what Carlos Zelaya writes on Dead Press!: the metamorphosis of the band from the early metalcore to a more radio-oriented sound is now complete, but such a disc will not attract them any new fans, even if it will satisfy the old ones (here I have some doubts). The compositional vein seems to me totally exhausted, the band continues to go around the usual clichés, and it does it so much that the habit of offering covers, on this record, becomes embarrassing. There are three: Steve Miller Band's Fly Like an Eagle, Queen's We Will Rock You and Mazzy Star's Into Dust. The first is flattened, becoming an anonymous track in In This Moment-style. The second, despite the participation of Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) and Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless), undergoes the same treatment, and it is sincerely shameful: being able to make such a song totally useless is not for everyone. The third is honestly the highest moment of the album, even if the original is not approachable (for them): the very fact that it is the best of the album is pretty significant. To underline Lay Me Down: practically a copy / paste between the same We Will Rock You and If I Had a Heart by Fever Ray. I wonder if it is appropriate to continue on this path, for In This Moment.
