Cominciamo stando bassi: al momento, per me questo è il disco dell'anno. Ovviamente, è una opinione del tutto personale. Al primo ascolto, dato che come sapete ogni tanto mi diverto ad inventarmi descrizioni "ad effetto", mi è venuto in mente di definirli come Meshuggah emo-pop. Mi sono accostato al loro sesto album senza grandi aspettative, il disco precedente, quello con il quale li ho conosciuti, mi era piaciuto ma non mi aveva lasciato nessun senso di esaltazione. E invece, di questo disco mi sono innamorato perdutamente. Il perfetto equilibrio tra potenza djent, tecnica progressive, cantato harsh e melodia post-emo, mai stucchevole e senza concessioni troppo sinfoniche. Nella seconda parte del disco, poi, due brani per i posteri: Past Life Persona e End to Excess. Bellissime. Le porterò nel cuore per lungo tempo.
Let's start low: at the moment, for me this is the album of the year. Obviously, this is a completely personal opinion. At the first listen, since as you know every now and then I enjoy inventing "effective" descriptions, it occurred to me to define them as Meshuggah emo-pop. I approached their sixth album without great expectations, the previous album, the one with which I met them, I liked but it didn't leave me with any sense of exhilaration. And instead, I fell madly in love with this album. The perfect balance between djent power, progressive technique, harsh singing and post-emo melody, never cloying and without too symphonic concessions. In the second part of the album, then, two songs for posterity: Past Life Persona and End to Excess. Beautiful. I will carry these two songs in my heart for a long time.
