Tecnicamente, Lives Outgrown è il debutto in studio da solista per Beth Gibbons, voce dei Portishead per chi arrivasse adesso sul nostro pianeta, visto che Out of Season del 2002 era una collaborazione con Rustin Man, e Henryk Górecki: Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) del 2019 è un album dal vivo. Parliamone. Disco interessante, ma non intrigante fino in fondo. In parte prevedibile, in parte no. Abbastanza sperimentale nei suoni e nella ricerca di un intreccio tra un folk che oserei descrivere dark, spruzzate di musica araba, echi di Tom Waits e ovviamente, del suo lavoro con i Portishead. La sua voce è splendida, superba, sia quando rimane sui toni bassi, sia quando si innalza, le dieci tracce altalenanti, nel senso che hanno tutte qualcosa di interessante, estremamente ben fatto, miscelano le influenze al meglio, ma ogni tanto ci sono delle ingenuità, o meglio, delle cose molto meno belle. Ad essere onesti, le parti meno belle sono in minoranza. Quindi, bel disco, ma non bellissimo.

Let's talk about this Lives Outgrown. Interesting album, but not all the way intriguing. Partly predictable, partly not. Quite experimental in the sounds and in the search for a mix between a folk that I would dare describe as dark, sprinkles of Arabic music, echoes of Tom Waits and obviously, of her work with Portishead. His voice is splendid, superb, both when it remains low and when it rises, the ten tracks fluctuate, in the sense that they all have something interesting, extremely well done, they mix the influences at their best, but every now and then there are naivety, or rather, much less beautiful things. To be honest, the less beautiful parts are in the minority. So, good album, but not beautiful.
