This band from Boston, Massachusetts—a new discovery for me—is now on its third album, delivering a multifaceted brand of alt-rock rich in diverse influences; with *Monarch*, they have released what I consider one of the most exciting records of the year. As I listened, I enjoyed mentally tracing their influences and coming up with comparisons: a less cloying Muse, Chevelle mixed with Twenty One Pilots, or a less hyped-up Turnstile. They aren't exactly metal, yet they pack a powerful punch when the guitars kick in; Jack Underkofler’s vocals soar effortlessly and work to perfection, the melodies are stirring and full of vigor, and the song structures—while complex and at times progressive—never feel bloated or overlong. In short, it’s an album that’s hard to take out of heavy rotation.
