Come immaginerete conoscendo il tenerone che è in me, la recensione potrebbe anche chiudersi qui, con questo estratto dalla canzone che per me è la chiave di questo nuovo disco dei nord irlandesi Snow Patrol, What If This Is All the Love You Ever Get? (E se questo fosse tutto l'amore che hai mai avuto?). Invece, la voglio tirare un po' per le lunghe, fosse solo per chiedere scusa, per l'ennesima volta, alla band di averli sottovalutati qualche anno fa, e poi averli rivalutati in un momento in cui ne avevo evidentemente bisogno (cosa per cui ho fatto ammenda pubblicamente proprio qui, su questo blog). Gli Snow Patrol ed il loro vate Gary Lightbody fanno e continuano a fare quello che ci si aspetta da loro: scaldarti il cuore come se fosse inverno, e cantare d'amore in maniera non troppo sdolcinata. Lightbody sostiene spesso di incappare nel blocco dello scrittore, ci sta tutto, e questo probabilmente spiega pezzi che sembrano pesci fuor d'acqua come A Dark Switch, o le lunghe lavorazioni dei dischi. Probabilmente, se non avesse questa problematica, lui e la sua band riuscirebbero a scrivere il loro capolavoro, non so perché ma sento che manca loro ancora qualcosa. Nel frattempo ci dobbiamo accontentare di piccole gemme pop rock quali il pezzo citato in apertura, Life On Earth, Don't Give In, Empress, Life and Death. Nella versione Deluxe troverete ben cinque versioni alternative di altrettanti pezzi del disco (tra cui, naturalmente, un'altra versione bellissima di What If).

As you imagine knowing the sweetie that is in me, the review could also close here, with this excerpt from the song that for me is the key to this new album of the Northern Irish Snow Patrol, What If This Is All the Love You Ever Get? Instead, I want to pull a little for the long, also if it was just to apologize, for the umpteenth time, with the band to have them underestimated a few years ago, and then have them reevaluated at a time when I obviously needed it (something for which I made public amends right here, on this blog). The Snow Patrol and their bard Gary Lightbody do and continue to do what is expected of them: warm your heart as if it were winter, and sing of love in a manner not too mushy. Lightbody often claims to run into the writer's block, shit happens, and this probably explains tracks that look like out-of-water fish like A Dark Switch, or the long work of the records. Probably, if he did not have this problem, he and his band would be able to write their masterpiece, I do not know why but I feel that they are still missing something. In the meantime we have to settle for small pop rock gems such as the track mentioned at the opening, Life On Earth, Don't Give In, Empress, Life and Death. In the Deluxe version you will find five alternate versions of as many tracks of the album (including, of course, another beautiful version of What If).
