Il nono album in studio della band di Knoxville, Tennessee, è una palla di lava, o qualcosa del genere. Chi pensava, dopo The Valley, del 2019, dove la band si concedeva delle tracce con momenti simili a ballad metal (come Hickory Creek, che rimane comunque una gran canzone), e dove il portentoso cantante Phil Bozeman sperimentava (con successo) alcune parti di cantato "clean", che si fossero rammolliti, o che avessero imboccato un percorso più leggero, beh, si sbagliava di grosso. Hymns in Dissonance è un disco incandescente, 43 minuti di un deathcore pesantissimo, dove colpiscono alcuni momenti di cantato growl parossistico, ritmiche di una violenza inaudita, e perfino alcuni bellissimi assoli di chitarra che richiamano la NWOBHM, giusto per far capire a tutti che c'è un certo spessore in quello che fanno i Whitechapel. Disco che sicuramente mi verrà voglia di riascoltare ancora.
The ninth studio album by the band from Knoxville, Tennessee, is a ball of lava, or something like that. Whoever thought, after 2019's The Valley, where the band indulged in some tracks with moments similar to metal ballads (like Hickory Creek, which is still a great song), and where the prodigious singer Phil Bozeman experimented (successfully) with some "clean" singing parts, that they had softened, or that they had taken a lighter path, well, they were very wrong. Hymns in Dissonance is a incandescent album, 43 minutes of a very heavy deathcore, where some moments of paroxysmal growl singing, rhythms of an unheard violence, and even some beautiful guitar solos that recall the NWOBHM are striking, just to make everyone understand that there is a certain depth in what Whitechapel do. An album that I will definitely want to listen to again.
