Oggi, qualcosa di completamente diverso: parliamo di Céu (in portoghese cielo o paradiso), all'anagrafe Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, originaria di San Paolo, 40 anni, qui al suo quinto disco in studio. Il disco ha un titolo senza significato, perché pare sia una parola che pronuncia spesso il figlio più giovane della stessa cantante e del suo batterista Pupillo. Céu è una delle voci moderne più quotate, tra quelle che vengono dal Brasile, terra che a modo suo ha influenzato il mondo musicale, ed è autrice di un incrocio particolarissimo tra la bossa nova, la MPB, la world music ed il trip-hop. La voce è soffice e vellutata, la musica rarefatta, spesso scarna e al servizio della voce stessa, e mescola elettronica base con classici suoni brasiliani, creando un prodotto decisamente poco classificabile. Per chi ha voglia di allargare i propri orizzonti, appunto, qualcosa di completamente diverso.

Céu is one of the most popular modern voices, among those who come from Brazil, a land that in its own way has influenced the musical world, and is the author of a very particular cross between bossa nova, MPB, world music and trip-hop . The voice is soft and velvety, the music rarefied, often sparse and at the service of the voice itself, and mixes basic electronics with classic Brazilian sounds, creating a decidedly unclassifiable product. For those who want to broaden their horizons, as I wrote already, something completely different.
