La musica, in fondo, può essere semplice, anche se fatta da bravi musicisti (una cosa della quale mi sono accorto vedendoli dal vivo, dico del fatto che siano bravi). I Green Day, questo, lo hanno capito da tempo, e in questo incarnano ancora uno spirito punk, pur usando delle variazioni su temi rock e blues. Mentre un po' alla volta si avviano ai 40 anni di attività, il fatto che ancora oggi, e lo dimostra questo nuovo Saviors, riescano a far uscire dischi che divertono, con liriche non banali, basterebbe per dire che nonostante le vicissitudini personali soprattutto di Billie Joe, stanno invecchiando piuttosto bene. Si possono criticare per mille motivi: perché non sono punk, perché dal vivo fanno troppo spettacolo "mainstream", ma quello che per me conta è quel che ho scritto prima. E cioè, ho ascoltato il disco, e mi sono divertito.
Music, after all, can be simple, even if made by good musicians (one thing I realized when I saw them live, I mean the fact that they are good). Green Day have understood this for some time, and in this they still embody a punk spirit, despite using variations on rock and blues themes. While little by little they are approaching 40 years of activity, the fact that even today, and this new Saviors proves it, they manage to release records that entertain, with non-trivial lyrics, would be enough to say that despite the personal vicissitudes especially of Billie Joe, they're aging pretty well. They can be criticized for a thousand reasons: because they aren't punk, because they put on too much of a "mainstream" show live, but what matters to me is what I wrote before. And that is, I listened to the record, and I enjoyed it.
