No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

Adore Life - Savages (2016)

It's only rock and roll, but...

You'll forgive me, but as it was for their debut, I still do not share enthusiasm and excitement for this while valid English all-female band.
And you forgive me if, in practice, the review will say more or less the same things said three years ago on the occasion of "Silence Yourself". Post punk or New Wave revival, now we understand exactly what we should expect from the Savages, pumped and all around bass, a sort of monotonous voice that knows even warble, minimal battery or tending to tribal (but which prefers the snare drum to the toms), noisy guitars alternating to distorted arpeggios (but, I have to say, this girl Gemma Thompson is sooo good with the harmonics). And yet, even I must admit that there is some charm in what they do and what they play. The tracks are well structured, take "Evil", and as a lot of music we listen that always reminds one million other pieces, but it's likeable, so likeable, and never tires. And so on, with the painful "Adore", with the urgency of "I Need Something New", with the ultra-minimal punk "T.I.W.Y.G.", with the syncopated opening of "The Answer".
It 's the same old story. It's only rock and roll, but ...
