Hunter Gatherer - Avatar (2020)

The eighth album for the Swedish band seems to be a kind of concept once again. According to them, after having tested themselves with the previous Avatar Country to see if they were capable of doing comedy, now they return to real and current themes. Hence the reference of the title to pre-civilized man, contains a series of tracks that reflect on the human being and his so-called evolution, so much so that, for example, for the opening track Silence in the Age of Apes, claim to have been inspired by the book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, by the Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari. On a stylistic level, I confirm what I said on the occasion of the previous album: a band of transformists, which goes from classic heavy metal to melodic death, to speed metal, to groove. The tracks are enjoyable, the album can be listened to without problems, the most disparate influences are appreciated, but in the end, one gets the impression of being in front of a band of excellent musicians, which, however, finds it difficult to define a personality of its own.
