No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

NIRATIAS - Chevelle (2021)

Ninth studio album for the band from Grayslake, Illinois, formed since 1995 by the two Loeffler brothers, Pete (vocals and guitar, on the albums he also deals with bass) and Sam (drums); at the moment they use Kemble Waters as bassist for the tours, and the curious thing is that the position of bassist has been occupied, over time, by both the other brother Joe Loeffler, and by their brother-in-law Dean Bernardini. Having faced the amenities, let's dedicate ourselves to the record, which I am really enjoying. I am not surprised that the two mention Helmet, Tool and Cure among their main influences: the record is composed of a robust, elaborate and modern hard rock tending to metal, which constantly keeps an eye on the catchy and airy melodies, but does not it never lets itself be tempted by cloying excesses or easy mainstream solutions. Pete's voice tends to high tones and even falsetto, but he manages not to annoy. The influence of Tool is strong but mixes with that of the best Muse (and the use of guitars, if you think about it, recalls that of Helmet; to finish with the influences mentioned, the Cure emerge in the spasmodic search for melody). In short, thirteen tracks for an abundant 50 minutes of pretty good music.
