L'amato e odiato wrapped di Spotify, ha decretato che i The Acacia Strain sono la band che ho ascoltato di più nel 2025. E lo ha fatto pochissimo dopo che questo loro tredicesimo album fosse pubblicato. Detto questo, la band statunitense (fondata a Chicopee, Massachusetts, in seguito di base ad Albany, New York), seppur continuando ad adottare una estetica dark, approfondendo nelle liriche temi di terrore esistenziale, misantropia, giudizio cosmico e fuga metafisica, sembra (tra video e interviste) non prendersi troppo sul serio. Quello che invece continua a prendere estremamente sul serio, e, a detta di molta critica, ad appesantire e a migliorare, è la parte musicale, un deathcore senza compromessi, deragliante, devastante, incessante, aggressivo, senza scampo. I cinque picchiano durissimo, e ci regalano 37 minuti dove mettono davvero, a ferro e fuoco le orecchie dell'ascoltatore, con grande padronanza del caos, grande stile, grande tecnica. E forse è per quello che il wrapped mi ha beccato ad ascoltarli così tanto, anche con i loro bellissimi dischi precedenti.
Spotify's beloved and hated Wrapped has declared The Acacia Strain the band I listened to most in 2025. And it did so shortly after their thirteenth album was released. That said, the American band (founded in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and later based in Albany, New York), while continuing to adopt a dark aesthetic, delving into their lyrics themes of existential terror, misanthropy, cosmic judgment, and metaphysical escape, seems (between videos and interviews) not to take themselves too seriously. What they do, however, continue to take extremely seriously—and, according to many critics, both weighs them down and improves them—is the music, an uncompromising, derailing, devastating, relentless, aggressive, and relentless deathcore. The five-piece hit incredibly hard, and give us 37 minutes of truly devastating music, with great mastery of chaos, great style, and superb technique. And maybe that's why Wrapped caught me listening to them so much, even with their beautiful previous albums.
