La prima impressione che ho avuto ascoltando il quindicesimo disco in studio di Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher, è stata: "è come se un videgioco degli anni '90 si fosse messo a scrivere una colonna sonora". Molte tracce ve le potete immaginare come inseguimenti attraverso città futuristiche alla Blade Runner. L'impressione era corretta: per la realizzazione di questo disco, Squarepusher ha deciso di riutilizzare i sintetizzatori analogici che ha usato nei primi anni '90 anziché che la sua stessa tecnologia che ha sviluppato e utilizzato in album come Ufabulum (2012) e Damogen Furies (2015). Jenkinson ha anche usato effetti a pedali vintage e un Commodore VIC-20. Il risultato è ovviamente allucinante, come ci ha abituato, e al tempo stesso eccitante e leggermente ansiogeno.
The first impression I had listening to Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher's fifteenth studio album was: "it's as if a video game from the 90s had started writing a soundtrack". You can imagine many tracks as if something or someone was chased through futuristic cities like in Blade Runner. The impression was correct: for the making of this disc, Squarepusher decided to reuse analogue synthesizers that he used in the early 1990s rather than his own technology that he developed and used on albums like Ufabulum (2012) and Damogen Furies (2015). Jenkinson also made use of vintage effects units and a Commodore VIC-20. The result is obviously hallucinating, as he has accustomed us, and at the same time exciting and slightly anxious.
