Non è il primo disco del 2023 che ho ascoltato (del primo vi parlerò quanto prima), ma è il primo del quale vi voglio parlare, soprattutto perché sarò velocissimo: a 75 anni, James Newell Osterberg Jr. è ancora in grado di insegnare hard rock, e questo disco ne è un fulgido esempio. Si permette, ovviamente, di circondarsi di nomi importanti (divertitevi a leggere la lista), e di spaziare dal punk all'hard rock, alla post new wave, con quella voce camaleontica che può, a seconda dei brani, ricordare Johnny Cash ma perfino Gary Numan, per un disco eccitante, che si permette perfino di inserire una ballad da brividi (Morning Show), dove sembra parlare velatamente di sé: I'll fix my face and go/Go and do the morning show/I'll fix my face and go/Time to do the morning show. Immarcescibile.
It's not the first album from 2023 that I've listened to (I'll tell you about the first as soon as possible), but it's the first I want to tell you about, above all because I'll be very fast: at 75, James Newell Osterberg Jr. is still able to teach hard rock, and this record is a shining example of that. Obviously, he surround himself with important names (have fun reading the list), and to range from punk to hard rock, to post new wave, with that chameleon-like voice that can, depending on the songs, recall Johnny Cash but even Gary Numan, for an exciting record, which even allows himself to insert a creepy ballad (Morning Show), where he seems to covertly talk about himself: I'll fix my face and go/Go and do the morning show/I'll fix my face and go/Time to do the morning show. Immutable.
