Quattordicesimo album per la band greca, che si apre con una splendida copertina (Destruction, dalla serie di dipinti Corso dell'Impero di Thomas Cole), e che, proseguendo sia lo stile musicale, sia il fatto di essere un concept, del precedente The Heretics, a livello di liriche compie una sorta di viaggio in Europa, porgendo tributi agli ultimi re pagani che resistettero alla marea cristiana (la posizione anti-cristiana della band è nota), salvaguardando i valori e la conoscenza antichi, dalla Grecia sino alla Scandinavia. Disco che ormai ha abbandonato quasi del tutto i parametri black metal, e che potremmo definire semplicemente heavy metal, suona benissimo, ha un importante respiro epico, al quale contribuiscono spoken word, cori e narrazioni, manca un poco di variazioni ma non mi sento di dare una insufficienza al tutto.
Fourteenth album for the Greek band, which opens with a splendid cover (Destruction, from the series of paintings The Course of Empire by Thomas Cole), and which, continuing both the musical style and the fact of being a concept, of the previous The Heretics, lyrically, makes a sort of journey to Europe, paying tribute to the last pagan kings who resisted the Christian tide (the band's anti-Christian position is well known), safeguarding ancient values and knowledge, from Greece to Scandinavia. A record that has now almost completely abandoned the black metal parameters, and which we could simply define as heavy metal, it sounds great, has an important epic feel, to which spoken word, choirs and narratives contribute, it lacks a little variation but I don't feel like give the whole thing an insufficiency.
