Il quinto lavoro per la band nord americana (visto che uno dei tre membri ufficiali, il batterista Nick Yacyshyn, è canadese, mentre gli altri due statunitensi) conferma tutto quanto avevamo già detto in occasione di un paio dei loro dischi precedenti, e l'occasione di averli visti dal vivo (a Madrid in apertura ai Deafheaven) non ha fatto altro che ribadire il tutto: i Sumac sono letteralmente indefinibili. Post-metal va benissimo, proprio perché può voler dire tutto e niente: nella loro musica c'è black metal, noise, sludge, progressive, free jazz. Vi aprono la mente senza bisogno di sostanze stupefacenti. Psichedelici.
The fifth work for the North American band (given that one of the three official members, the drummer Nick Yacyshyn, is Canadian, while the other two are Americans) confirms everything we had already said on the occasion of a couple of their previous albums, and the opportunity to have seen them live (in Madrid opening for Deafheaven) did nothing but reiterate everything: Sumac are literally indefinable. Post-metal is fine, precisely because it can mean everything and nothing: in their music there is black metal, noise, sludge, progressive, free jazz. They open your mind without the need for drugs. Psychedelics.
