The Work - Rivers of Nihil (2021)
La band di Reading, Pennsylvania, continua il suo percorso di fusione del progressive (ho letto fan che scomodano addirittura gli EL&P) con il death metal, ed anche con questo quarto album riesce a mettere insieme momenti musicali estremamente spiazzanti. Riuscire a fondere elementi così distinti non è sempre facile, eppure i Rivers of Nihil a volte riescono a farlo in tracce da oltre 10 minuti (la conclusiva Terrestria IV: Work), altre volte addirittura in soli 4 minuti (Wait). Disco di non facilissima assimilazione, che richiede ascolti attenti, e che naturalmente rivela all'ascoltatore una pletora di influenze (ovviamente tra le più disparate), ma che soddisfa pienamente chi è alla ricerca di qualcosa di più del semplice strofa/bridge/ritornello.

Being able to merge such distinct elements is not always easy, yet Rivers of Nihil sometimes manage to do it in tracks for over 10 minutes (the final Terrestria IV: Work), other times even in just 4 minutes (Wait). Disc not very easy to assimilate, which requires careful listening, and which naturally reveals to the listener a plethora of influences (obviously among the most disparate), but which fully satisfies those looking for something more than a simple verse / bridge / chorus.
