Five Legged Dog - Melvins (2021)
Probabilmente i tre Melvins si annoiavano durante il lockdown. Nonostante sia uscito un loro disco in febbraio, e in gennaio Dale Crover avesse fatto uscire pure un suo disco solista, si sono detti "dobbiamo fare qualcosa di pazzo, qualcosa di grande". Detto, fatto. Un disco composto da 4 LP o 2 CD, 36 tracce per 2 ore e mezzo di musica. Non è finita: un disco acustico. I Melvins. Acustici. Si, sembra una battuta, e invece lo hanno fatto. Canzoni dal loro sterminato repertorio in versione acustica, e qualche cover anche inedita. Una roba strana, ma bella, parere del tutto personale, visto che sono un ex batterista e che come sapete, Dale Crover è uno dei miei preferiti, la veste acustica mette in primissimo piano il suo stile. A parte questo, affascinante viaggio nella musica degli inventori dello sludge (e pure del grunge, se fosse stato un genere musicale), un lunghissimo trip che mancava nel loro arsenale.
Probably the three Melvins were bored during the lockdown. Although their album was released in February, and Dale Crover also released a solo album in January, they said to themselves "we have to do something crazy, something big". No sooner said than done. A disc consisting of 4 LPs or 2 CDs, 36 tracks for 2 and a half hours of music. It's not over: an acoustic record. The Melvins. Acoustic. Yes, it sounds like a joke, but they did it. Songs from their immense repertoire in an acoustic version, and some unpublished covers as well. A strange stuff, but beautiful, completely personal opinion, since I am a former drummer and that as you know, Dale Crover is one of my favorites, the acoustic garment puts his style in the foreground. Apart from that, a fascinating journey into the music of the inventors of sludge (and grunge too, if it were a musical genre), a very long trip that was missing in their arsenal.
