Waysides - Bedouine (2021)
Terzo album per l'artista statunitense di origini armeno-siriane (ho mancato di commentare il suo secondo Bird Song of a Killjoy del 2019), della quale avevo apprezzato il debutto omonimo del 2017. Lo stile non è cambiato, probabilmente un poco raffinato, amalgamando quello spruzzo di bossa nova che l'ha ispirata sin dagli inizi; per essere precisi, se inizialmente l'avevo incasellata nel genere americana, folk è la definizione senza dubbio più corretta, ed è su questa "base" che si innestano la bossa nova ed una certa propensione jazz, ma appena accennata. Una buona composizione, una voce vellutata e più a suo agio sui toni bassi, almeno così sembra, ma dall'ottima estensione e dal bel timbro, un tocco dreamy, liriche malinconiche, sentimentali, esistenziali. Arrangiamenti essenziali, è un disco abbastanza mininalista. Non ci sono picchi che sono, però, riusciti a colpirmi.
Third album for the American artist of Armenian-Syrian origins (I failed to comment on her second Bird Song of a Killjoy in 2019), of which I had appreciated the eponymous debut in 2017. The style has not changed, probably a little refined, amalgamating that spray of Bossa nova that has inspired her since the beginning; to be precise, if initially I had pigeonholed it in the Americana genre, Folk is undoubtedly the most correct definition, and it is on this "basis" that bossa nova and a certain jazz propensity are grafted, but barely mentioned. A good songwriting, a velvety voice and more at ease on the low tones, at least so it seems, but with an excellent extension and a beautiful timbre, a dreamy touch, melancholy, sentimental, existential lyrics. Essential arrangements, it's a fairly mininalist record. There are no peaks that have, however, managed to hit me.
