Friends That Break Your Heart - James Blake (2021)
James Blake Litherland arriva, con questo Friends That Break Your Heart, titolo che conferma la sua tendenza alla malinconia, al suo quinto album. E si capisce che sta seguendo un percorso: Pitchfork ne fa una disamina pressoché perfetta, e spiega tecnicamente cosa sta accadendo alla forma-canzone che aveva dato notorietà a Blake inizialmente, e che io non avevo saputo analizzare alla perfezione, avendo solo dato voce ad una sensazione, a proposito dell'album precedente, che già procedeva verso la "normalizzazione" della forma delle tracce. Il risultato è un buon disco, Blake è ancora un compositore, produttore ed esecutore di categoria superiore, ma non emozionante come ci aspettiamo da lui. Apprezziamo, però, il fatto che la sua musica stia cambiando, non escludiamo quindi che riesca a produrre ancora grandi cose in futuro.
James Blake Litherland arrives, with this Friends That Break Your Heart, a title that confirms his tendency to melancholy, on his fifth album. And we understand that he is following a path: Pitchfork makes an almost perfect examination of it, and technically explains what is happening to the song-form that had given Blake notoriety initially, and that I had not been able to analyze perfectly, having only given voice to a feeling, about the previous album, which was already proceeding towards the "normalization" of the shape of the tracks. The result is a good record, Blake is still a top class composer, producer and performer, but not as exciting as we expect from him. We appreciate, however, the fact that his music is changing, so we do not rule out that he will still be able to produce great things in the future.
