Brighten è il quarto album a nome Jerry Cantrell, dopo Boggy Depot del 1998 e i due Degradation Trip (2002), e ci consegna un chitarrista e cantante, oggi 55enne, che è ancora molto legato al suo stile, un mix di suono heavy metal e blues spesso dai sapori southern, uno stile immediatamente riconoscibile. Riflessivo, forgiato da una vita sicuramente non facile agli inizi, il successo, poi una perdita che sicuramente ha lasciato un vuoto, tutto questo, ed altro, si sente nella musica di Cantrell; peccato che sia tutto abbastanza prevedibile. Lo si ascolta, e sono contento che ci sia ancora.

Brighten is the fourth album under the name of Jerry Cantrell, after Boggy Depot in 1998 and the two Degradation Trip (2002), and gives us a guitarist and singer, now 55, who is still very attached to his style, a mix of heavy metal sound and blues often with southern flavors, an instantly recognizable style. Thoughtful, forged by a life that was certainly not easy at the beginning, success, then a loss that surely left a void, all this and more can be heard in Cantrell's music; pity it's all pretty predictable. It's a nice listening, and I'm glad he's still there.
