Kin - Whitechapel (2021)

A due anni dal precedente e acclamato The Valley, ecco l'ottavo album per la band del Tennessee, la cui missione mi appare ormai molto chiara, probabilmente più che a loro: portare il deathcore al livello successivo, quello della diffusione di massa, ma in modo molto diverso rispetto a quello adottato ad esempio dai Bring Me the Horizon. L'introduzione di "momenti Tool", quelli di cantato clean da parte di Phil Bozeman, lo sfruttamento intensivo delle risorse chitarristiche della band, anche a livello di assoli, armonici e melodie varie, la composizione di tracce che si possano tutto sommato definire ballads anche se contengono momenti deathcore, o addirittura ballads vere e proprie, il tutto diretto a creare un disco che soddisfi la voglia di violenza sonora dei fan più oltranzisti, e quella di altri meno abituati a suoni duri ed estremi, e che appassioni quindi anche chi non è ancora riuscito ad abbattere il pregiudizio del cantato in growling, o di altre caratteristiche che siano proprie di questo genere estremo di musica. Direi che i Whitechapel ci hanno messo grande impegno, con questo Kin, un disco che ascoltato ad alto volume è una assoluta goduria, e che non possiamo far altro che toglierci il cappello di fronte a questo disco. Ci dispiace per quanti non riusciranno a goderselo.

Two years after the previous and acclaimed The Valley, here is the eighth album for the band from Tennessee, whose mission is now very clear to me, probably more than to them: to take deathcore to the next level, that of mass diffusion, but in a very different way than that adopted for example by Bring Me the Horizon. The introduction of "Tool moments", those of clean singing by Phil Bozeman, the intensive exploitation of the band's guitar resources, even at the level of solos, harmonics and various melodies, the composition of tracks that can be defined as ballads even if they contain deathcore moments, or even real ballads, all aimed at creating a record that satisfies the desire for sonic violence of the most extremist fans, and that of others less accustomed to hard and extreme sounds, and therefore to intrigue also those who has not yet managed to break down the prejudice of growling singing, or other characteristics that are typical of this extreme genre of music. I would say that Whitechapel have put a lot of effort into it, with this Kin, a record that listened to at high volume is an absolute pleasure, and that we can not help but take off our hats in front of this record. We are sorry for those who will not be able to enjoy it.
