B-Sides & Rarities: Part II - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (2021)

Detto che, come nota giustamente chi lo ha già sottolineato, le B-sides non esistono più, questo disco nasce come seconda parte dell'omonimo, ma Part I, che uscì nel 2005 (e che, lo ricordo con un misto tra divertimento e nostalgia, mi capitò di recensire per la rivista per la quale scrivevo molti anni fa, lo accennai qui), e racchiude molti inediti, riportando leggermente l'attenzione sulla band, i Bad Seeds, quando effettivamente, negli ultimi anni, quando si parlava di Nick Cave si parlava anche e solo di Warren Ellis, fidato collaboratore e cervello fino, complice appunto, degli ultimi anni. So di suonare scontato, ma come dicevo tra il serio e il faceto qualche giorno fa ad amici, parlando proprio dell'uscita di questo disco, "ritengo l'artista in questione ormai incapace di scrivere una canzone brutta"; oltre a ciò, c'è pure la curiosità, morbosa, visto che posso tranquillamente dichiararmi fan, di ascoltare qualcosa che, come nel caso delle versioni demo, ma anche di altri divertissement come la traccia di apertura Hey Little Firing Squad, dia all'ascoltatore la sensazione di essere in sala prove insieme alla band, di ascoltare qualche sbavatura, di partecipare all'evoluzione delle tracce. Tutto questo, ed altro, viene più che soddisfatto da questo disco fatto da ben 27 tracce, per oltre un'ora e mezzo di musica.

Having said that, as those who have already pointed out rightly note, the B-sides no longer exist, this album was born as the second part of the homonymous, but Part I, which came out in 2005 (and which, I remember it with a mixture of fun and nostalgia, I happened to review for the magazine for which I wrote many years ago, I mentioned it here), and contains many unreleased, slightly bringing the attention back to the band, the Bad Seeds, when actually, in recent years, when we talked about Nick Cave we spoke also and only of Warren Ellis, trusted collaborator and fine brain, precisely because of the recent years. I know I sound obvious, but as I said between the serious and the joking a few days ago to some friends, talking about the release of this record, "I think the artist in question is now unable to write a bad song"; in addition to this, there is also the curiosity, morbid, since I can safely declare myself a fan, to listen to something that, as in the case of the demo versions, but also of other divertissements such as the opening track Hey Little Firing Squad, give to the listener the feeling of being in the rehearsal room with the band, of listening to some smudges, of participating in the evolution of the tracks. All this, and more, is more than satisfied by this record made up of 27 tracks, for over an hour and a half of music.
