Il racconto panoramico delle eccentricità di Savannah si concentra su un omicidio e il successivo processo a Jim Williams, un uomo che si è fatto da sé, collezionista d'arte, antiquario, bon vivant e omosessuale semidichiarato. John Kelso, un giornalista con un libro - Before the Fall - a suo nome, arriva a Savannah, tra la bella architettura e le stranezze, per scrivere un servizio per Town & Country su una delle famose feste di Natale dello stesso Williams. Non essendo riuscito a trovare un taxi, Kelso chiede all'autista del tour bus se sta andando a Jones Street. "Ci vado io" (I'll getcha there) è la risposta.
Tratto dal best seller omonimo di John Berendt, ispirato a sua volta a fatti realmente accaduti, bel film di Eastwood regista con un'atmosfera ironica che circonda la storia decisamente thriller, e un cast in grande forma, dove spicca The Lady Chablis (Chablis Deveau).
