Pain Is Forever and This Is the End - Mantar (2022)
Quinto album in studio per il grezzissimo duo tedesco, che, stupitevi fino ad un certo punto, in più passaggi mi ha ricordato i Nirvana del loro debutto Bleach. In inglese potremmo dire “Sludge metal at its finest”, e sarebbe veramente il caso. I Mantar riescono ad avvolgere l’ascoltatore in una musica che, quasi letteralmente, “sporca”, e al tempo stesso, dare allo stesso ascoltatore una carica pazzesca. Se confrontati con i dischi precedenti, almeno, alle mie orecchie, si allontanano un po’ dal death e dal doom, e spingono, appunto, maggiormente sul “pedale” sludge e crust punk. Niente di nuovo, vero, ma sono di quelle band che riescono a suonare comunque “fresche”.
Fifth studio album for the very crude German duo, who, be amazed up to a certain point, in several passages reminded me of Nirvana of their debut Bleach. Sludge metal at its finest, and indeed, this is the case. Mantar manage to envelop the listener in music that, almost literally, "dirty", and at the same time, give the listener a crazy charge. If compared with the previous records, at least, to my ears, they move a little away from death and doom, and push, in fact, more on the "pedal" of sludge and crust punk. Nothing new, true, but they are of those bands that still manage to sound "fresh".
