Mirrocell - Greg Puciato (2022)

A meno di due anni di distanza dal debutto solista Child Soldier: Creator of God, uno dei miei frontman preferiti, Gregory John Puciato da Baltimora, Maryland, pubblica il suo secondo lavoro, dal titolo Mirrorcell. Solita "formazione" del disco precedente, lui che canta e suona tutti gli strumenti ad eccezione della batteria, suonata da Chris Hornbrook, con un'unica, ma a dir poco incredibile, comparsata: Reba Meyers dei Code Orange duetta con lui su Lowered (ne è appena uscito un singolo con cinque versioni differenti), e manco a farlo apposta, ne esce fuori la traccia migliore del disco. Detto questo però, non pensiate che il resto sia di poco conto: al contrario. A mio giudizio, Greg ha tenuto conto della lunghezza del disco precedente, ha tagliato il superfluo, ed ha ottenuto un lavoro molto più compatto. Dal punto di vista musicale, abbiamo già detto di tutte le sue influenze, che qua appaiono maggiormente al servizio della forma-canzone. Cosa importante da notare, e premetto che potrebbero essere le mie orecchie, come potrebbe essere un filtro nostalgico e personale, ma, dopo il disco (bellissimo) dei rinati Alexisonfire, che suona grunge, anche questo disco suona nostalgicamente anni '90 in quella direzione: Never Wanted That mi è sembrata subito una outtake dei Mad Season. Un disco che conferma una realtà inoppugnabile: quello che è un Henry Rollins più giovane, è anche una grande realtà musicale.

Less than two years after his solo debut Child Soldier: Creator of God, one of my favorite frontman, Gregory John Puciato from Baltimore, Maryland releases his second work, titled Mirrorcell. Usual "line up" of the previous album, he who sings and plays all the instruments except the drums, played by Chris Hornbrook, with a single, but incredible, guest: Reba Meyers from Code Orange duets with him on Lowered (a single has just come out with five different versions), and the best track of the album comes out. Having said that, however, do not think that the rest is insignificant: on the contrary. In my opinion, Greg took into account the length of the previous record, cut the superfluous, and got a much more compact work. From the musical point of view, we have already said about all the influences of him, which here appear more at the service of the song-form. Important thing to note, and I state that it could be my ears, as it could be a nostalgic and personal filter, but, after the (beautiful) album by the reborn Alexisonfire, which plays so grunge, this record also sounds nostalgically 90s in that direction: Never Wanted That immediately seemed like a Mad Season outtake to me. A record that confirms an incontrovertible reality: he is a younger Henry Rollins, is also a great musical reality.
