The Dark Parade - Mordred (2021)

Ormai non mi stupisco più di niente, in campo musicale, quindi accetto di buon grado che i Mordred, band proveniente dalla San Francisco Bay Area, California, abbia appena pubblicato questo The Dark Parade, il loro quarto album, a distanza di 27 anni dal precedente The Next Room (1994). Una di quelle band che non è riuscita a raggiungere il successo quando il thrash metal, anche ibrido come quello che suonavano loro, era sulla cresta dell'onda, probabilmente a causa di cattiva gestione manageriale. Hanno cominciato a riprovarci dal 2001, e se sono riusciti a suonare fuori dagli US solo nel 2014, e a pubblicare nuovo materiale solo nel 2021, credo dipenda solo dalla passione, ed in un certo qual modo, è giusto premiarli almeno con una menzione. Lo stile non è molto distante da quello che conoscevamo: suonano come se fossero i Faith No More dei primi anni 90, come accennato prima, una base di thrash metal con inserti funky e rap molto ben amalgamati. Come spesso accade, mi prende una sorta di nostaglia ascoltando questo tipo di dischi: oggi sono un po' superati, ma i Mordred avrebbero meritato decisamente più credito di quello che riscossero nei primi anni 90.

I am no longer surprised at anything in the music field, so I gladly accept that Mordred, a band from San Francisco Bay Area, California, has just released this The Dark Parade, their fourth album, 27 years after previous The Next Room (1994). One of those bands that failed to achieve success when thrash metal, even hybrid like the one they played, was on the crest of the wave, probably due to mismanagement issues. They've been trying again since 2001, and if they only managed to play outside the US in 2014, and only release new material in 2021, I think it's just down to passion, and in a way, it's fair to reward them with at least a mention. The style is not very far from what we knew: they sound like they were Faith No More from the early 90s, as mentioned before, a thrash metal base with very well blended funky and rap inserts. As often happens, I get a kind of nostalgia when listening to these kinds of records: today they are a bit outdated, but Mordred would have deserved much more credit than the one they received in the early 90s.
