Negative - Act of Denial (2021)

Debutto di questo che possiamo considerare una superband metal, per di più internazionale: Bjorn Strid dei Soilwork, svedese, alla voce, Voi Cox (Koziak, Victim) alla chitarra (anche compositore e produttore), croato, Luger (Benighted, Koziak, vero nome Nikola Bartulić) chitarra, anche paroliere, croato, Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Death), basso, statunitense, Kerim Lechner (Decapitated, Septicflesh), batteria, austriaco, John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra), tastiere, svedese. Detto questo, il disco è ovviamente un levigatissimo (mi fa sempre strano usare questo tipo di aggettivi per un genere che nasce come l'opposto) death metal melodico, che flirta con il metalcore ma anche con una certa attitudine NWOBHM negli assoli di chitarra, e perfino con un pizzico di AOR, nelle melodie ariose, seppur incattivite dalla voce ruvidissima.

Debut of what we can consider a super metal band, moreover international: Bjorn Strid of Soilwork, Swedish, on vocals, Voi Cox (Koziak, Victim) on guitar (also composer and producer), Croatian, Luger (Benighted, Koziak, true name Nikola Bartulić) guitar, also lyricist, Croatian, Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Death), bass, American, Kerim Lechner (Decapitated, Septicflesh), drums, Austrian, John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra), keyboards, Swedish. That being said, the record is obviously a very smooth (it always makes me strange to use this type of adjective for a genre that is born as the opposite) melodic death metal, which flirts with metalcore but also with a certain NWOBHM attitude in guitar solos, and even with a hint of AOR, in the airy, albeit nasty melodies because of the very rough voice.
