Mykki - Mykki Blanco (2016)

Mykki Blanco, nata Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. a Orange County, California, rapper, performance artist, poetessa e attivista, ebrea-afro americana da parte di padre, genitori divorziati quando lei aveva 2 anni, a 16 scappa di casa e si trasferisce a NYC. Attiva sulla scena hip-hop dal 2011, ha pubblicato tre EP e due Mixtapes prima di questo debutto del 2016, e ha collaborato, tra gli altri, con Basement Jaxx, Charli XCX, Teyana Taylor, Brooke Candy, Pussy Riot. Pioniera del queer hip hop, il nome d'arte Blanco si ispira all'alter ego di Lil' Kim (Kimmy Blanco), viene da un background musicale punk e Riot Grrrl. Nel 2015 rivela di essere sieropositiva dal 2011, e nel 2019 si identifica come transgender. Il disco in questione (attendiamo qualcosa di nuovo, si è rifatta viva nel 2020 con un singolo dove ospita FaltyDL e Devendra Banhart) è un geniale intreccio di attitudine queer sfacciata, hip hop moderno molto elettronico, liriche spassose, flow sinuosi ed irresistibili.  

Mykki Blanco, born Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. in Orange County, California, rapper, performance artist, poet and activist, Jewish-African American on her father's side, parents divorced when she was 2, ran away from home at 16 and moved to NYC. She has been active on the hip-hop scene since 2011, she has released three EPs and two Mixtapes before this 2016 debut, and has collaborated with, among others, Basement Jaxx, Charli XCX, Teyana Taylor, Brooke Candy, Pussy Riot. A pioneer of queer hip hop, the stage name Blanco is inspired by the alter ego of Lil' Kim (Kimmy Blanco), comes from a punk and Riot Grrrl musical background. She in 2015 she reveals that she has been HIV positive since 2011, and in 2019 she identifies as transgender. The album in question (we are waiting for something new, she came back in 2020 with a single where it hosts FaltyDL and Devendra Banhart) is a brilliant intertwining of cheeky queer attitude, very electronic modern hip hop, hilarious lyrics, sinuous and irresistible flows.
