Come correttamente nota David Saxum di Northern Transmissions (qui tradotto per Internazionale), Sharon Van Etten al settimo album, essendo un'artista in evoluzione, passa dalla composizione esclusivamente solista, a quella di gruppo. Ora, se seguite questo blog sapete quanta stima ho per questa cantante/musicista (stanco che non venisse a suonare dal vivo in Italia me ne andai in Belgio appositamente), e quanto mi piacciono le sue canzoni. Il risultato di questa nuova veste mi ha ricordato, in alcuni passaggi, lo stile di St. Vincent, che, in alcuni momenti a sua volta ricorda David Byrne ed i suoi Talking Heads (ribadisco, solo in alcuni momenti), in altri una via di mezzo, in altri ancora si sente il suo tocco magico con melodie bellissime; ma, sempre a mio modesto parere, qualcosa non funziona alla perfezione, nell'insieme, ed il risultato è un disco particolare, a tratti piacevole a tratti non del tutto convincente.
As David Saxum of Northern Transmissions correctly notes, Sharon Van Etten, being an evolving artist, switches from exclusively solo composition to group composition on her seventh album. Now, if you follow this blog you know how much respect I have for this singer/musician (tired of her not coming to play live in Italy I went to Belgium specifically for this), and how much I like her songs. The result of this new version reminded me, in some passages, of the style of St. Vincent, who, in some moments in turn recalls David Byrne and his Talking Heads (I repeat, only in some moments), in others a middle way, in others still you can hear her magic touch with beautiful melodies; but, always in my humble opinion, something does not work perfectly, overall, and the result is a particular album, at times pleasant at times not entirely convincing.
